Well it’s finished!
Another year is in the books.
The ropes and spurs are resting; and so are the riders and the bulls.
The winner has been crowned and the buckle awarded.
So who won? Believe me it was a race that came down to the last day. So close all the way! It was the kind of finals that your dream about—a real race for the buckle! So many times it came down to who could just stay on the bull and get a score. The bulls actually won the Championship round. Out of 15 rides, only 3 riders made it to 8 seconds.
Unfortunately, there were a few injuries, but not as many as there have been in the past. Mostly it was nursing old injuries along to make it through the Finals. T
he worst was probably was when
Ryan McConnel got stepped on in the chest. For most riders this would not have been so serious, but a week before the Finals, Ryan was in an auto accident where his truck rolled a few times and his lung was punctured. The doctors didn’t want him flying to the Finals because the pressurizing of the plane may cause him problems. So he drove from Oklahoma to Las Vegas. He rode really well until one of his get-offs took him right in the way of a rear hoof – a ton of pressure on a recently punctured lung. . . You get the picture. He didn’t ride again in the finals. But his is alive!!! To ride again!
Oh, you want to know who won. Sorry, I forgot that you weren’t watching with me.
The
Finals Average winner was
J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, N.C.). He also made history by being the first rider to cover all 8 of his bulls in the Finals. His winnings were
$742,208 over the 2009 season.
The
2009 PBR World Champion was
Kody Lostroh (Longmont, Colo.) His winnings for the season were
$1,601,625.
Did I mention that the new season starts in 2 weeks in Atlanta?
